A start of a healing journey
Happy 90th Jean!
I met you in 2012-2013 when I attended the Gospel of John Retreat. Those 20 days were not easy for me. I kinda fell apart and cried throughout most of your sessions, which I am so grateful for, as through your words you helped me heal parts of me and relationships that I was avoiding for years. My time in Trosly was a start of a healing journey for me. My favorite memory though, was at the washing of the feet. I remember I was sitting in the room, not very many people were in the room yet and you entered and came and sat right beside me. Quickly, as people entered, I was asked to stand up so they could get a picture with you. I remember you leaning over to me and whispering that I should chain myself to the seat as others would probably want it! We laughed. As the celebration was about to start, I noticed the direction that we were going to wash feet and I asked you if we could switch spots so I could wash your feet. Your response was simple, “no, I want to wash your feet.” And so you did. You went on your knees, removed my boots and socks, gently washed my feet, then placed my socks and boots back on me. It was beautiful and moving and something I will never forget. I always joke with people, that when you become a saint, my feet will be 3rd class relic.
Thank-you for being a great example of a servant leader. I pray you will be blessed abundantly in your 90th year.
