Announcement - L'Arche North Bay
L’Arche Canada acknowledges with sadness that the L’Arche North Bay Board of Directors has determined that the current state of L’Arche North Bay is unsustainable and not viable into the future. As a result of this decision, the Board has resolved to cease operations and dissolve the corporation.
We anticipate that the last day of operations will be October 3rd, 2019. During the intervening time, the priority will be planning a smooth transition for the members with an intellectual disability to be supported by other agencies. The plan is to incorporate Person-Centered Planning in partnership with families and other community and government agencies to determine in detail the needs and best fit for each person to be transitioned in the least disruptive manner possible.
The past two years have been especially challenging for the community, and most recently, L'Arche North Bay's financial situation has become more precarious than ever. This current decision was not made easily. It came after much analysis and discussion with both L’Arche Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, to explore options to address the identified vulnerabilities.
We are committed to clear and open communication as things evolve. We are also committed to respecting both the process L’Arche North Bay is enacting and the confidentiality of all people involved. The community will also be working, within their resources, to ensure all personnel are treated fairly and adequately. The desire of every person, with or without a disability, who wish to remain in L'Arche elsewhere will obviously be taken into consideration.
We entrust to your prayers and thoughtful consideration all those involved in this particularly delicate and difficult time.
All inquiries are to be addressed to Jeff Gilbreath email@example.com, as the official spokesperson for L’Arche Canada in this situation.
