L'Arche Communities
New Movements and Communities in the Life of the Church
Helen Reid Thomas
“I pray that this booklet may help many to discover what we are discovering in L’Arche: it is a privilege and a gift to become the friend of a person with disabilities.”— Jean Vanier, from the Foreword
(Softcover, pocket format; Catholic Truth Society, 2002; Pp74) This little book helps fill the need for a concise, yet thorough introduction to the history and development of L’Arche. Although written by British author Helen Reid Thomas with special attention given to the development of L’Arche in the United Kingdom and Ireland it nonetheless offers a good overview of the history of L’Arche that will still be of interest to North American readers. Subsequent chapters entitled How L’Arche Works and The Spirituality of L’Arche will deepen the readers understanding. Included as well are suggestions for further reading and a copy of the Charter of L’Arche.
