 | | News > L'Arche in Canada | | Advocating for Complete Exemption of your Registered Disability Savings Plan | | | Kathy Coleman | The RDSP works like an RESP or a RRSP, but taxation upon withdrawal of funds is less.
Currently BC and Newfoundland have exempted the RDSP as an asset and/or income. This is important for Disability Pension Plans. Quebec has indicated that they will most likely exempt a portion of the RDSP.
Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, are all examining the RDSP, but have currently not indicated how they will treat the RDSP.
People who qualify for the Disability Tax Credit will be eligible to open an RDSP. For adults with disabilities or families with incomes of $20,833 or less, the Disability Savings Bond will provide $1,000 per year for 20 years to an RDSP without any contribution.
